What is gas assisted injection molding process?
Gas assist molding is a low-pressure plastic injection molding process where pressurized nitrogen gas is injected into the mold, pushing the plastic into the mold extremities, while hollowing out thicker sections in the part.
Advantages. This process forms a hollow, plastic injection molded part and parts are lighter, greener and cheaper than traditionally injection molded equivalents. Moulded parts also cool faster in this process because of constant pressurization by the gas.
Most plastic injection moulded components can benefit from the use of gas assisted moulding. Applications from consumer goods to automotive parts benefit from the process.
